Literacy and the level of education are key indicators of the level of development achieved by society. The spread of literacy is generally associated with essential features of modern society, such as development, urbanization, industrialization, connectivity and trade. Literacy is an important contribution to people’s overall development that helps people to better grasp and react to their socioeconomic, political and cultural environment Higher education and literacy lead to greater awareness and also help to improve economic and social conditions. This functions as a tool for social change and raises investment returns in almost any aspect of development efforts, from control of populations to the health sector to hygiene, environmental degradation and employment of weaker section of society.

Education is both the means and the object of a better life; is because it enables a person to make a living and raises awareness on the range of issues – from health care to adequate social behaviour to a better understanding of one’s rights and evolves as a responsible citizen. The miracle cure for all the ills that exist in life is education. Education is the nation’s backbone. India continues to face serious issues related to inadequate access, affordability, inefficiency in the education system.

In India, we can not only talk about education in urban cities, without going deep into rural education, which makes up about 90 percent of schools in rural areas. According to recent studies, education has developed in rural areas, but in some remote rural areas serious attention still needs to be paid to the fact that children are not receiving basic education.

We are committed to working for those people who are not sufficiently supported or deprived of education. We tend to work in the areas with impacts on the ground as compared to government services that usually address the needs of a vast majority with little attention given to people of civil society having no voice. Although the government is striving to respond to the need for education, in several cases, most of the children are dropouts due to several reasons. The problem is more severe as we move towards rural interiors and tribal dwellings.

Education – Inspiring Stories

01

Preeti

I want to help my parents, because my father is always sick.

Preeti story is really a tragic one. Her father experienced an accident a few years ago and is absolutely bed ridden and her mother works in nearby households to earn money, but whatever she receives is spent on her father's medications. BPY managed to rescue from her poor conditions and give her life a purpose. She is now studying in class 6. Her passion is to become a teacher and BPY helps her make her dream come true.

Ravi

There were days when we were not able to eat at all.

We used to struggle every day. Ravi's father passed away at a very young age. Every day after the death of his father was a challenge for them and they moved to the city as a result. Even moving to the city didn’t help much. When the mother took him to the Education Center, he was malnourished, anemic, and poor. He never spoke to anyone and paid little attention in class. The teachers didn't lose faith and supported him constantly and encouraged him. Now both health-wise and in his education he has improved a lot. His mother is very happy to see all of the positive changes in him.

Roshni

Young girl was fought to accomplish what was truly hers.

An ambitious 12-year-old Roshni has been made to drop her parents out of school. But this young girl was fighting to achieve what was rightly hers. Roshni's mother is still very unwell, leaving her husband alone to earn the money. More than half of that amount is poured out in Roshni's mother's medical treatment. And with what remains the proceedings of the month become difficult, leaving the family in difficult conditions. In this case, two children's educational expenditure was a liability. Roshni was made to stop going to school right after she passed the 2nd grade with success. Her parents took pride in educating the son. And Roshni was asked to do the household chores in order to support her mother. With this Roshni Hurt tried to reason with her dad. Nevertheless, Roshni's request was not taken into consideration. Yet Roshni never gave up. She had a friend's picked up books. Roshni began studying at home along with doing domestic work. BPY had spotted her dedication. We have also consulted her parents on the value of girl child education. Roshni now stands in the 5th standard. She attends her center classes daily, and even supports her mom in the household chores. Roshni and her parents are grateful to BPY for giving her the opportunity.

Earlier Hetal used to work for a small amount of money with her mom doing household chores for other people She hadn't even the time to play. The action by the Education program of the BPY changed her life entirely. She is now studying in Class 3. Both her mother and she are happy to come to school and enjoy it there.
